Fiberglass Pipe Production Equipment

Pipes are one of the oldest and most widespread inventions. They are used everywhere. Pipe manufacturing technology has evolved from wood to steel and plastics. Today, manufacturing pipes from composite materials, such as fiberglass or basalt composites, is one of the modern production technologies. These pipes combine the strength of steel with the light weight and flexibility of plastics.

More and more buyers are choosing composite pipes as an alternative to traditional pipes. Their properties make them suitable for applications where other options are difficult or impossible to use. Composite pipes are resistant to corrosion, chemicals, moisture and temperature fluctuations, and are lightweight and easy to handle.

You can order from our company a composite pipe production line made from fiberglass or basalt composites. We offer different equipment configurations depending on your requirements and operating conditions.

Our equipment can produce composite pipes with diameters from 200 to 4200 mm and lengths of up to 10 meters. The pipe diameter depends on the line type. By changing the settings, pipes of different diameters and shapes can be produced.

Only two operators are required to operate the line, helping reduce staffing costs.

Fiberglass pipe manufacturing technology

Producing high-quality fiberglass pipes that meet the strictest requirements depends on using a proven, high-quality technology developed by professionals. Ivanovo Mechanical Plant has its own laboratory specializing in research and development of composite materials.

The company research laboratory is headed by Pavel Nikolaev.

- Doctor of Chemical Sciences and professor of the Department of Chemistry and Technology of High-Molecular Compounds at Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology.

The manufacturing technology supplied with the equipment Fiberglass pipe manufacturing technology includes:

  • compound preparation technology,
  • fiberglass pipe manufacturing technology,
  • product certification, laboratory testing and issuance of a certificate of conformity to GOST requirements.
Fiberglass pipe winding line

The technology for manufacturing fiberglass pipes is relatively straightforward. Roving serves as the reinforcing fiber, while epoxy resins are used as the binder in fiberglass pipe production.

The line supplied by Ivanovo Mechanical Plant for fiberglass pipe production is based on continuously winding the fiber and resin onto a mandrel. The process consists of applying roving layer by layer. The roving passes through a special impregnation bath, where it is saturated with a cold-curing resin. A moving carriage then winds the glass fiber transversely around a steel mandrel.

Once winding is complete, the pipe cures, forming a monolithic and highly durable multilayer wall. The fiberglass liner (inner wall) provides the required resistance to aggressive and abrasive media transported through the pipeline, as well as leak-tightness. After curing, the finished fiberglass pipe is removed from the mandrel and tested. Once testing is complete, it is cut if necessary and shipped to the customer.

When manufacturing a fiberglass pipe, its intended use must be taken into account. Different resin types are selected according to the liquid the pipe will carry. Different pipe reinforcement patterns are also selected according to the intended application. The reinforcement pattern is selected based on ASTM/AWWA international standards.

Pipes made from fiberglass and manufactured using continuous filament winding offer a number of clear advantages, including high specific strength, corrosion resistance, low weight, a service life of up to sixty years without repairs, reliability, low installation and maintenance costs, high repairability and low hydraulic resistance.

The Composite Fiberglass Pipe Market

Composite materials have been used extensively in developed countries for many years. In Russia, their use is only beginning to gain momentum.

One such modern material is fiberglass pipe. Compared with alternatives, fiberglass pipes offer a number of key advantages that explain their demand: low weight, corrosion resistance, high mechanical properties, weather resistance, fire resistance and low thermal conductivity. Buyers consider these properties when choosing fiberglass pipes.

Why is fiberglass pipe production profitable?

Russia ranks second after the United States by pipeline length and first by the degree of pipeline wear.

Russia currently operates approximately 3 billion meters of external pipelines, most of which are in poor condition and require urgent replacement. Government policies aimed at conserving resources play an important role in stimulating demand for modern pipeline systems. According to the latest data, pipeline wear causes annual losses of approximately RUB 100 billion for hot and cold water alone.

The second major market for fiberglass pipes is industry, including the oil and gas sector. Although these pipes are not yet used as widely in private households because of their higher cost, the industrial sector has already recognized their advantages and actively uses them to modernize existing facilities and build new ones.

This creates steady growth in demand for fiberglass pipes. The ability to manufacture both pipes and fiberglass tanks on the same equipment further expands the market.
