Pipe production machines

Ivanovo Mechanical Plant offers equipment for producing GFRP pipes. Our solutions are developed in-house and use a new manufacturing technology based on modern composite materials. The unique arrangement of modules, auxiliary units, automation systems and process-control units makes it possible to set up production with a payback period of one to two months.

Modern Production

When developing the equipment, our engineers paid special attention to its profitability. To achieve high profitability, the core processes and stages were completely redesigned, resulting in unprecedented efficiency. As a result, the proposed solutions require a minimum of operating personnel—up to two people regardless of the parameters or characteristics of the material being manufactured. This was achieved through a high degree of automation. Most operations are performed without human involvement.

Reliable Control

Pipe quality is monitored by an integrated system based on electronic units, sensors and detectors. They help automate the production process and make it faster. Our systems operate according to pre-programmed algorithms that do not require regular setup or adjustment when the type of product being manufactured changes.

Rapid Adaptability

The equipment can produce GFRP pipes or profiles with various cross-sections, diameters of 200–4200 mm and lengths of up to 10 m. Changing the settings to manufacture new products takes minimal time and does not require complex preparation. The line's capabilities depend on its configuration. We can offer different versions depending on the tasks to be solved, preferences and requirements.

Where Can the Products Be Marketed?

The GFRP pipes manufactured offer excellent performance, environmental safety and a long service life at a low cost. Their high performance makes them sought after by companies in various industries, including:

  • Water supply. Installation and repair of drinking-water, industrial-water and wastewater pipelines.
  • Mining. Oil-industry enterprises and companies involved in extracting and transporting other viscous or liquid media.
  • Processing. Production of chemical liquids, gaseous substances and other products.
  • Manufacturing. Organizations that require pipelines for transporting raw materials and chemicals.

The sales market also includes utilities, private repair companies, construction contractors and specialized stores. To learn more and purchase a mini-plant for GFRP pipe production, contact a plant manager.

GRP pipe manufacturing technology

Producing high-quality GRP pipes that meet the strictest requirements depends on a proven, professionally developed technology. Ivanovo Mechanical Plant has its own laboratory specializing in composite-material research and development.

The research laboratory at our company is headed by Pavel Vyacheslavovich Nikolaev.

- Doctor of Chemical Sciences and professor at the Department of Chemistry and Technology of High-Molecular Compounds at Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology.

The GRP pipe manufacturing technology supplied with the equipment includes:

  • compound preparation technology,
  • GRP pipe manufacturing technology,
  • product certification, laboratory testing and issuance of a certificate confirming that your product complies with GOST requirements.
GRP pipe winding line

The technology for manufacturing GRP pipes is straightforward. Roving serves as the reinforcing fiber, while epoxy resins are used as the binding component.

Ivanovo Mechanical Plant’s GRP pipe production line is based on the continuous winding of fiber and the binding component onto a mandrel. The process consists of applying roving layer by layer. As it passes through a special impregnation bath, the roving is impregnated with a cold-curing resin. A moving carriage then cross-winds the glass fiber onto a steel mandrel.

After winding is complete, the pipe cures and forms a monolithic, highly durable multilayer structure. The GRP liner (inner wall) provides the required resistance to aggressive and abrasive media transported through the pipeline, as well as leak-tightness. After curing, the finished GRP pipe is removed from the mandrel and tested. Once testing is complete, it is cut if necessary and shipped to the customer.

When manufacturing a GRP pipe, its intended application must be taken into account. The resin type is selected according to the liquid the pipe will carry. Different pipe reinforcement patterns are also selected according to the intended application. The reinforcement pattern is selected based on ASTM/AWWA international standards.

GRP pipes manufactured using continuous winding offer a number of clear advantages, the main ones being are high specific strength, corrosion resistance, low weight, long service life (up to sixty years without repairs), reliability, low installation and maintenance costs, high maintainability, low hydraulic resistance.

About the GFRP pipe market

Composite materials have long been established and are used almost everywhere in developed countries. In Russia, their use is only beginning to gain momentum.

One such modern material is GFRP pipe. Compared with alternative products, GFRP pipes offer several key advantages that explain market demand: low weight, corrosion resistance, high mechanical properties, weather resistance, fire resistance, and low thermal conductivity.

Why Is GFRP Pipe Production Profitable?

Russia ranks second only to the United States in total pipeline length and first in the level of deterioration.

Russia currently operates approximately 3 billion meters of external pipelines, most of which are in poor condition and urgently need replacement. Government efforts to conserve resources also help stimulate demand for modern pipeline systems. According to the latest data, pipeline deterioration causes annual losses of approximately RUB 100 billion for hot and cold water alone.

Another source of demand for GFRP pipes is the rapid growth of industry and the oil and gas sector. Although GFRP pipes are not yet widely used in households because of their higher cost, the industrial sector already recognizes their advantages and is actively introducing them when modernizing existing facilities and building new ones.

These factors support sustained growth in demand for GFRP pipes. The ability to produce both pipes and GFRP tanks on the same equipment further expands the potential market.
