Production Profitability: Benefits and Prospects
The production of glass-fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) materials is an advanced, highly promising and profitable field. This is the technology of the future. There are many producers, but demand for GFRP rebar is already many times higher.
Our specialists recently took part in an online conference on the benefits of manufacturing composite building materials. The conference addressed two issues: production profitability and the marketability of relatively new building materials manufactured using our equipment—GFRP and other composite rebar, building polystyrene foam, stay-in-place formwork, facade decor and polyurethane foam shells.
The profitability of this type of production typically starts at 40% for efficient manufacturers, and we know how to increase it to 100%.
These are materials that people need and that offer excellent properties. Demand for them is growing day by day.
Progress does not stand still: high-quality composite GFRP rebar provides an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio. It is almost five times stronger than steel, twice as stiff and much lighter.
According to official sources, domestic shipments of steel rebar in 2019 were significantly lower than in the previous year. The decline was especially pronounced at plants located beyond the Urals, ranging from 7% to 58%. The farther a plant is from the construction market, the worse its economic situation.
The price of rolled steel products is constantly rising.
At the same time, apparent consumption of construction rebar grew by 18% across Russia and by 24% in the country's central region, and consumption will continue to grow.
Consumer behavior in the construction rebar market has changed. Demand has become more informed, and the need for rebar with better technical and physicochemical properties and stronger economic performance has increased, including price, transportation costs, durability, manufacturability and profitability.
In all areas, products from manufacturers of composite building materials and GFRP rebar are steadily displacing traditional steel products, especially in road construction and low-rise housing. The situation is reinforced by a sharp reduction in production costs and, consequently, market prices for composite materials, together with a significant improvement in their quality.
At present, production volumes of composite GFRP rebar do not meet market demand. Specialists forecast a sharp increase in market demand for composite rebar from 2017 to 2030 and, consequently, growth in production.
Foam plastic, in turn, is steadily displacing other building insulation materials from the market, and there is still no better material than foam-based stay-in-place formwork for economical cast-in-place construction.
